Belt conveyors are used to move units of goods either horizontally or at an incline up or down. As part of a conveyor system, belts are used in many different ways. If the system moves at an incline either up or down, an additional belt is used at the lower end. Transmission is carried out by a low-maintenance chain drive. In order to allow for smooth and low-noise transmission to the adjacent belt, transition curves with 6-degrees gradation are placed at the top end.
Transmission is carried out via head drives or center drives. Because less material is used, head drives also have less total weight, which results in fewer replacement parts being needed. A larger wrap angle of the belt in combination with a center drive results in more belt driving power, which again makes it possible to use longer belts and move more weight.
Belt tension is achieved in two different ways: For head drives this is done by moving the drive pulley or diverting pulley, and for center drives by inserting a tension pulley at the center.
The conveyor is mounted on vertically adjustable supports, which allow for selecting the most appropriate conveyor height. Suspended systems are first designed according to given ceiling structures and then mounted with special fixtures.
Base frames and the transverse parts are made from extruded aluminum with a thickness of 4 mm and then bolted together for maximum stability. Lateral guide profiles can be either integrated or mounted in form of an additional guide on top of the system (needed e.g. for conical containers). The belt’s running surface is made of galvanized sheet steel.
